Vitamin C Deficiency

As I’m sure some of you have seen I’ve been really struggling lately with extreme fatigue. I was very concerned as no Doctor could figure out the reasonings. Rest was their recommendation. Well I’d been resting a TON because I literally couldn’t keep my eyes OPEN. I knew it wasn’t rest as I felt worse than I’d never felt before. Something was wrong.

TRUST your body. You know what feels normal. After repeated attempts of not being able to find an answer I decided to figure it out myself. I looked up what could possibly be going on (I know.. The internet can be a terrible resource) and after seeing all my symptoms on almost EVERY illness out there I freaked out. But little by little cancelled out each one I knew it couldn’t be.

I finally stumbled upon Vitamin Deficiencies (In the beginning I thought it was an Iron deficiency but it came up normal in lab results) and Vitamin C sounded like it checked ALL of the boxes. Great! I had SCURVY haha! SO I asked my Husband to swing by the store for some Vitamin C tablets on his way home from work so I could try it out. He was sweet and got me Vitamin C AND E because they were BOGO ❥

Since we’d been to Louisiana in May I’ve been really off the wagon with all of my smoothies, constant fruit, lemon water, etc. To rule out whether it was Vitamin C or not I began taking the vitamins daily and drank nothing but lemon water. After a few weeks I slowly began to feel my energy increasing and my need to rest was dissipating. Then I knew.. I had scurvy! ☠

It took myself knowing my body well enough to know I wasn’t feeling right and because I wasn’t getting the answers from my Doctors, I had do it myself and I did. I’m still (rarely) having symptoms of the deficiency but I’m slowly getting back to myself and it feels great. Soon I’ll be able to workout regularly again and just feel like myself!

Moral of the story – TRUST your gut feelings and help yourself heal! Also, eat HEALTHY. This has been a wake-up call to get back into my strict Paleo eating. Oh, and DRINK LEMON WATER. IT’S AMAZING! ‎🍋

I’d been wanting one of their bottles so badly because they are so unique in that it actually has lights that flash inside the bottle to remind you to drink water when you’re falling behind on your daily goal; The goals can be manually set by you *On their free app* (I set mine to manually be at ~88oz everyday) or you can set it to the “Recommended Daily Goal” which changes your goals day by day depending on your location (Temperature, Humidity, Elevation, Steps, etc) **Such an AMAZING feature! So innovative.

Having the glowing reminders and your goal tracked really help, because it’s so incredibly important to stay hydrated and this bottle keeps you accountable. I honestly find myself feeling SO proud when I go OVER my goal, even if just a little! And I haven’t had a day yet where I don’t meet my goal! I’ve felt more energized, less groggy, have less headaches and just overall healthier since I’ve started using it!

The bottle comes equip with bluetooth that allows it’s users to connect to it via the Hydrate app – And also connects to Fitbit, MyFitnessPal, Google Fit, Withings and Jawbone Up! Makes me really want to go out and get a Fitbit.. I’ve almost gotten one twice now! All because I want to be able to sync it to my bottle hahaha!

I am so happy I won the giveaway and was able to get such a beautiful and high tech bottle! It’s made a huge difference in my health and life ALREADY. I highly recommend this to ANYONE! Especially people who are constantly on the go!

Words of Wisdom Wednesday!

Hey y’all! Was going back through my posts and came across one I still believe is such an important tip. So I am bringing back my weekly tips but changing them to Words of Wisdom Wednesday.

If you haven’t been drinking a lot of water lately and are feeling a bit groggy during the day DON’T jump straight into coffee! Grab a water bottle, toss some lemon in it and drink up!! Coffee and tea are both diuretics meaning they promote urination (and pooping) which is NOT helpful to hydration!

Being hydrated is what keeps you energized and healthy – So why go to coffee for a very quick and temporary boost when water can leave you feeling amazing all day!! I recommend starting every morning with a warm glass of lemon water and then the rest of your day with either normal water or fruit infused water (Helps keep water appealing with the added flavor:) )

Detox Water

Water is so incredibly crucial to a healthy body. It helps with circulation, digestion, weight loss, it removes toxins from the body and helps with daytime fatigue. In the past I have had so many issues with drinking water regularly and honestly drinking enough water is the first real step to beginning a healthy lifestyle.

I have found, especially in little children, that adding fruit really helps motivate drinking! Each herb, fruit and vegetable that you add also gives your water additional health benefits and detoxifying properties. I have made it a part of my everyday lifestyle now to add a little something extra to my water – It’s added flavor and appearance make it appealing and it is honestly so fun to shop around for new things I can add!

A few recipes I love so far:

Strawberries and Mint (My favorite!)

Cucumbers and Raspberries

Lemon, Lime and Mint

JUST cucumbers (Good for post-workout)

Etc.

Along with infusing your water, a water bottle that you really like can make a huge difference in how much you drink water. I LOVE my glass Voss bottle, just because it has the perfect sized spout, holds a nice amount of water and I feel pretty fancy having one (Even though they are only $3 at Natural Grocers😉 ). So go out and buy yourself an awesome new water bottle and some goodies to throw inside and drink, drink, drink!
